The Lothian & Borders Police Pipe Band, under new Pipe Major Ian Duncan for the first time, were the Eagle Pipers’ Society’s guests at the 13th of April meeting. It was our great pleasure to welcome Ian and the band, and 70+ members and guests, eager to hear the band’s progress under Ian’s leadership, packed the 1st floor of The Scots Guards‘ Association in Edinburgh’s Haymarket. It was great to see so many ex-members of the band in attendance, including Jack Abbott, Martin Wilson Snr, Martin Wilson Jnr and Keith Dawes among others.
The crowd were treated to performances from a mini-band with bright, well set instruments and some great new music, much of it courtesy of prolific composer and Eagle Pipers‘ Society member R. S. MacDonald. There were also performances from band members Neil Hall, David Anderson, Alex Duncan and John “Jockbag” Fraser. The band is in good hands with so much talent in the ranks and sound as though they can expect a strong season ahead. Don’t take my word for it, have a listen at The Eagle Pipers’ Society Youtube channel.
There was time for a few performances from regular members. Trying to keep the standards up were Peter McAlister and yours truly.
This, we hope, will be the first of many successful ‘guest nights‘. Keep an eye on the website for further announcements.
The next meeting will take place on 27 April at The Scots Guards’ Club and starts at 7.30pm. We hope to see you there.
