It was another great turnout this week and we were treated to a few tunes from Honorary PM Euan Anderson, Tracey Williams, Craig Sutherland, George Hill, Dr Robert Gray and Matt Wilson. Honorary President Colin MacLellan was in the hotseat for the Ceol Mor and played Salute on the Birth of Rory Mor MacLeod. It was great playing all round.
We were delighted to welcome PM George Lumsden and his son George back to The Eagle Pipers. George has joined and may even be persuaded to bring his pipes some night for a tune.
It was also great to see Jack Abbott back again. Jack was the Society’s first Secretary and has kindly offered to provide us with a few stories from the early days of the Society back in the 1960’s. I’ll be sure to post them here on the site.
It’s unfortunate that cameras were a rarity back in the early days of the Society so there are very few photos of the great evenings which were often a who’s who of piping. Thanks to Society photographer Libby O’Brien we are doing our best to keep a record of the meetings. We have a facebook page which will be kept up to date with Libby’s photos as well as a few videos and meeting dates. For a few excerpts of the evening’s piping you can also visit The Eagle Pipers’ channel on Youtube.
Anyone with an interest in the Great Highland Bagpipe can join The Eagle Pipers’ Society. For the very reasonable annual membership fee of £30 there are meetings every other Tuesday throughout the year and you will receive your iconic Society tie. Overseas members are also welcome. For the fee of £20 annually you will receive your Society tie. Visit the membership section for more information.
Thanks to everyone who came along. See you at the next meeting, from 7.30pm on 2 March 2010 at the Scots Guards’ Club, Haymarket, Edinburgh for more piping, pies and pints.
