Meeting update from 2 February

The 2nd meeting of The Eagle Pipers’ Society was held on 2 February at the Scots Guards Club in Edinburgh’s Haymarket and another great night was had by all.

Iain MacDonald

We were pleased to welcome Jack Abbott to the meeting.  Jack was the very first Secretary of The Eagle Pipers’ Society when it formed back in 1960 and has offered to provide us with a few stories from the early days of the Society for the website.

Jack was presented with a new Eagle Pipers Society tie by Colin, as were P/M Jimmy Banks and Chick Hunter of the Scots Guards Club in recognition of their support of the Society in providing an excellent venue.

Allan Harper

We were treated to a few tunes from Honorary Pipe Major Euan Anderson, Peter McCalister, Iain MacDonald, Chris Gibb, Jenny Hazzard, Allan Harper, Lee Moore and Cameron Drummond.  Cameron, double silver medallist in 2009 performed the Ceol Mor giving us The Desperate Battle.

There was also a special treat from Matt Wilson who, rather than having a tune, opted instead to recite a poem he had written for the occasion.

To hear Matt’s poem and some of the other players from the evening, visit the Eagle Pipers’ channel on Youtube.

Chris Gibb

Thanks to everyone who came along and to those who sent messages of support.

See you at the Scots Guards’ Club, Haymarket, Edinburgh on 16 February 2010 for the next meeting.  The meeting will start at 7.30pm.

It is great to read in the Piping Today about the Eagle Pipers Society has recommenced again, with the well admired names popping up in the Society again.
Living in Perth, Western Australia the news takes along time to filter in. We had some marvellous times in the old days with going first to George Stoddarts shop then over to the Society with the Edinburgh contingent from the old 8th Btn The Royal Scots (Pipeband) for our mid week practice.
Looking forward to my membership and coming along to a meeting next time on holiday in Edinburgh.(Not a great piper but can get a tune)

All the best for the future with every success
